Special Issue: Current approaches in environmental protection

The Special Issue is devoted to the XVII edition of the Italian-Hungarian Symposium on Spectrochemistry that was held at the University of Turin (Italy), 14–18 June, 2021. The Symposium was organized under the auspices of Italian and Hungarian prominent Institutions such as the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) of Budapest, the Turin and Pisa Universities, the Italian Society of Pharmaceutical Medicine (SIMeF), the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) - Italian Language Branch, the Experimental Zooprophilactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d'Aosta (IZSPLV), the National Research Council (CNR) and the Institute for Water Research (IRSA).
This series of biennial events is a well-established tradition since 1983 that provides a permanent forum for scientists primarily (but not only) from Italy and Hungary to discuss the outcome of their studies in the field of human health and environmental protection.
The 2021 Symposium theme was “Current approaches in health and environmental protection” and dealt with the most recent advances in strategies in this field. The main focus was the role played to this end by innovative analytical techniques, as in many instances analytical chemistry is closely related to the studies and research needs in environmental, pharmaceutical and medical fields. In particular, the following themes were addressed: monitoring and reduction of contaminants in environmental compartments, at the workplace and in food; current developments in medical devices; new challenges in pharmacology; use, abuse and misuse of pharmaceuticals; and regulatory aspects.
Scientists from various countries other than Italy and Hungary also attended the Symposium to stimulate the mutual exchange of views and gain information on other possible approaches adopted to promote research, stimulate innovation and open new analytical avenues in the field of environmental sciences, toxicology and pharmacology.
Selected papers from the oral or poster presentations of this international Symposium that address the environmental aspects of this theme are being submitted for pubblication in the virtual Special Issue Current approaches in health and environmental protection that is intended to be a “bridge” between the two Journals of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC; Publisher: Wiley- Blackwell):
- Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM);
- Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (ET&C).

Authors should carefully review the aims and author guidelines before submitting their manuscripts to one of the above Journals. Authors will be prompted to indicate they are part of the Virtual Special Issue upon submission. All manuscripts will be subject to independent peer review, which is managed by the journals. Publication in ET&C or IEAM is not guaranteed.

IEAM accepts technical papers that are intended to explore the economic, regulatory, scientific and social aspects of environmental assessment and management, consistent with the aims and scope of the journal. IEAM publish papers that report new information, promoting dialogue and fostering new methods for the analysis of ecological, chemical, engineering, physical and social science research applied to the advancement of environmental management strategies, policy and regulation, and problem solving.

For more information, please see the IEAM Author Guidelines:

Manuscripts should be submitted directly to the IEAM manuscript submission site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/IEAM. Please select "IHSS Symposium" from the special issue dropdown at submission.

ET&C accepts papers describing original experimental or theoretical work that significantly advances understanding in the area of environmental toxicology, environmental chemistry and hazard or risk assessment. ET&C is interdisciplinary in scope and integrates the fields of environmental toxicology; environmental, analytical, and molecular chemistry; ecology; physiology; biochemistry; microbiology; genetics; genomics; environmental engineering; chemical, environmental, and biological modeling; epidemiology; and earth sciences. Environmental chemistry papers can be directed to this Journal.

For more information, please see the ET&C Author Guidelines:

Manuscripts should be submitted directly to the ET&C manuscript submission site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/etc. Please select "IHSS Symposium" from the special issue dropdown at submission.

Inappropriate Content — ET&C does not publish papers on certain topics. These include: papers that focus on human health toxicology, unless they are tied closely to exposures to environmental stressors or extrapolated to responses in wildlife or other aspects of ecotoxicology and papers that focus on occupational exposure in humans.

If you have any questions about the suitability of your paper for this special issue, you may contact the editorial offices at etc@setac.org or ieam_editor@setac.org, or discuss your contribution with one of the Guest editors.
